Abstract
The floristic phytogeographical features of the ferns in the Houhe natural protective region in Hubei are preliminarily discussed in this paper, the results are as follows:This region is very abundant in pteridophytes with an ancient floristic origin as well as the majority of subtropical elements and higher percentage of temperate elements. The elements in the flora are from different ones with unbalanced development,Dryopteridaceae.Polypodiaceae and Athyriaceae have a large number of the genera and species. Therefore, the flora is Characterized by complexity and dominance of the Pteridophytes. In the same time, there are a lot of Chinese endemic pteridophyte species in the flora which may be situated at the Eastern Sichuan-Western Hubei centre of endemism of Pteridophytes.Besides, these endemic species are most similar to those of Southwest-China flora,it supports Ching Renchang's view that the fern floristic in Western Hubei should be classified into the one of Southwest Chinese fern floristic region.
