Fractal Characteristics of Distribution Pattern of Carpinus pubescens Population

  • The fractal characteristics of distribution pattern of Carpinus pubescens population in the karst mountain of Guiyang were studied by using the box dimension and information dimension of fractal theory.The results showed that the distribution pattern of C.pubescens population possesses fractal characteristics;the box dimensions ranged from 1.1853 to 1.7419,and the information dimensions from 1.1961 to 1.7051.The box dimension and information dimension of the clumped population are higher than those of the random population.The box dimension reflects the spatial occupation degree of the population,while the information dimension quantifies the scale variation degree of pattern intensity and discloses the unevenness of individual distribution.It has been found that the two fractal methods are suitable for quantitatively describing the fractal characteristics of distribution pattern of C.pubescens population.
