Abstract
The fern flora in Jianfengling Nature Reserve,Hainan Island, was composed of 165 species from 84 genera and 41 families. The speciesrich families were Polypodiaceae,Aspleniaceae,Thelypteridaceae,Tectariaceae,Athyriaceae,Angiopteridaceae, and Selaginellaceae. The speciesrich genera, which contained more than 5 species, were Asplenium,Selaginella,Angiopteris, and Pteris.Phytogeographically, the tropical elements of the pteridophyte families, genera, and species of Jianfengling were about 96.6%,90.4%,and 72.2% of the total (except cosmopolitan) element, respectively. This study concluded that the fern flora has a strong tropical nature. The genera species are weak for this fern flora. The monotypic genera and the oligotypic genera, which contained only 2 or 3 species, respectively, accounted for 63.1% and 21.4% of the total genera. The ecotypes were rich and included the soil ferns, lithophyte ferns, and epiphyte ferns. In addition, the presence of rare and endangered ferns such as Brainea insignis,Certopteris thalictroides,Cibotium barometz,Alsophila spinulosa,Gymnasphaera podophylla, and Gymnasphaera gigantean, which are listed in the national secondclass protected plants, should be used to increase strong protection measures for these plants.
