New Status for a Chinese Taxon of Cypripedium (Orchidaceae)

  • Cypripedium lichiangensem S.C.Chen et Cribb var.daweishanense S.C.Chen et Z.J.Liu is elevated to specific rank as Cypripedium daweishanense (S.C.Chen et Z.J.Liu) S.C.Chen et Z.J.Liu.It is characterized by having a yellowish-green and sparsely maroon-spotted dorsal sepal and shorter petals nearly as long as or slightly longer than the lip,while C.lichiangense has liver-colored dorsal sepals and much longer petals,which are nearly twice as long as the lip.They belong to Cypripedium/i> sect.Trigonopedium,a group with 11 species all endemic to China,to which a key is herein presented.
