STUDIES ON AQUATIC VASCULAR PLANTS IN HUAMA LAKE IN EAST HUBEI I. THE AQUATIC FLORA

  • The Huama Lake lies at 30°15′—30°18′N, and 114°58′—115°1′ E. It covers about 27.5km2. There are 34 families, 66 genera, 82 species and 2 varieties aquatic vascular plants growing in this lake. Of which 56 species are hydrophytic and emerging plants, 6 species are floating unattached plants 10 species are floating attached plants and 12 species are submerged plants, making up 66.7%, 7.1%, 11.9% and 14.3% of the total number of species respectively. The soil on the bed of the lake is very fertile and the depth is appropriate and favouring for various plants. The Huama Lake is located in the subtropic zone. The temperete floristic elements occupy a dominant position in Huama Lake. Compared with the Baiyangdian Lake, Jinpo Lake, Kunminghu Lake and Honghu Lake, the flora of Huama Lake is more similar to that of Baiyangdian Lake. The aquatic flora of Huama Lake has the character of transition from warm temperate to mid-subtropic.
