OBSERVATIONS ON THE BIOLOGICAL CHARACTER OF CHANGJIANGDOU (VIGNA SESQUIPEDALIS)

  • The Vigna sesquipedalis is an annual herbaceous plant, its biological symptoms may be summarized as follows:1. The water absorption ability, the rate of germination, the length of the main stem and its branches, the location of flowering or fruiting and the time of flowering on the axis show the distributions of normal curve.2. The length and diameter of a legume growth are almost uniform in every part of each. Therefore the size of each legume is about equal.3. When we get familiar with the role of bud differentiation and the flowering habit of the individual flower and whole plant, it is helpful to the building up biological basis for hybridized breeding.
