Effect of soil factors on the content of chemical components in Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex

  • To reveal the effects of soil factors on the chemical constituents of phenolic acids, alkaloids, and limonoids in Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex, we examined 15 soil factors from 31 samples and 10 chemical constituents of the produced medicinal materials. Correlations between soil factors and chemical composition were determined using redundancy analysis. The effects of soil characteristics on the chemical characteristics of the medicinal materials were investigated by hierarchical cluster analysis. Results indicated that soil salt, available phosphorus, cation exchange capacity, available nitrogen, available potassium, soil organic matter, available Mn, sulfur, and available Cu had remarkable effects on the chemical composition content of Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex, whereas there was a decline in the content of 3-O-feruloylquinic acid, 4-O-feruloylquinic acid, five alkaloids, and obaculactone, and an increase in the content of syringin and obacunone as the above soil factors increased. These results indicate that differences in environmental soil factors can lead to significant changes in the content of various chemical constituents in Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex.
