Analysis on the Distribution Patterns of Seed Plants Endemic to Hubei

  • Based on existing literature and specimen examination, we confirme that there are 129 species of seed plants endemic to Hubei, but no genera. These species belong to 45 families and 92 genera. Ten families contain more than four species, with Rosaceae containing seven genera and 15 species. Almost half of the species are herbs (48.06%), with a few lianas and climbers (12.40%), and a small number of trees and shrubs. According to geographical division, the 129 species could be classified into five areas. Half of the endemic species (65) are preserved in Daba Mountains, with 17 species, at least, preserved in Shennongjia. The relevance between the scope of the 65 Hubei Province nature reserves and the distribution of endemic species was analyzed, which showed that most endemic species would receive effective conservation in the protected territories.
